CAPE TOWN -The City of Cape Town's MMC for Energy, Xanthea Limberg, said she had never been deployed to a mayoral committee under the housing portfolio or in municipal contracts.
Limberg has also defended herself, saying she's never been involved in the supply chain management processes on which the city's investigations are based.
This follows a raid in her office along with the City's Safety and Security MMC, JP Smith by the Hawks on Friday.
In a statement, the SAPS confirmed that the raid was related to a tender fraud case in the construction sector that is already before the courts.
"The affidavit that gave rise to the search and seizure contains a number of material misstatements that can be refuted by easily accessible public records. Sound recordings made available to me suggest collusion between senior politicians and SAPS members. The overall intention of which is to conduct a lengthy trial by the media and character assassination," said the City's MMC for Energy, Xanthea Limberg.
She added that the actions were politically and financially motivated by the parties involved.
SAPS confirmed on Friday the probe on Xanthea Limberg and JP Smith offices is related to forensic investigations for a case that is already before courts. According to SAPS the matter relates to a tender fraud in the construction sector.
