DURBAN - The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) said that it would deal decisively with its members who disrupted the party's gathering earlier in January.

The disruption occurred while the party’s provincial leader, Willies Mchunu, was addressing supporters outside the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court last week.

It is believed the members were part of a group who are against Mchunu being convenor of the province.

Mchunu was named convenor after he joined the party last year, this was also confirmed on Friday when the party’s KwaZulu-Natal top eight was announced.

Some disgruntled MK Party supporters heckled Mchunu off the stage, demanding that he leave.

They sang and chanted political slogans while he was on the podium speaking.

When asked about this incident, party secretary-general, Floyd Shivambu, said the party was looking into the matter.

"Each and every one of those and we are going to activate the code of conduct of uMkhonto weSizwe to hold them accountable, and there will be a disciplinary process. We don’t know what the outcomes of the disciplinary process will be."

According to the party's constitution, heckling during gatherings and meetings is prohibited.

Shivhambu maintains the members involved will be held accountable.
