CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town said that all feasible options would be assessed during the public participation process for the redevelopment of Woodstock Hospital.

The old hospital, which was renamed Cissie Gool House after being occupied by 850 in 2017, is set to be redeveloped for social housing.

Many of the occupants fear they won't meet the city's requirements to be housed at the site after it's been redeveloped.

Reclaim the City leader and Cissie Gool house occupant, Karen Hendricks, said the city should have meaningfully engaged with the occupants before initiating a public participation process.

"Meaningful engagement should have been a part or the first part of a public participation process, especially for the Cissie Gool House occupiers who are the impacted and affected people."

Mayco for Human Settlements Carl Pophaim said that the city would be engaging with the occupants after taking stock of the public comment period which ends on 31 January.

"The city has been clear about the intention to garner meaningful, feasible and constructive written input on the proposed vision for this site, which includes the development of affordable housing opportunities for qualified residents."

The public comment period on the proposed sale of the site closes at the end of January.
