South African short film ‘The Last Ranger’ has been nominated for Best Live Action Short Film at this year’s Academy Awards.

The isiXhosa film explores the rhino poaching and conservation efforts South Africa is taking.

“... the film does highlight what’s happening with rhino poaching and how terrible it is, the socio-economic issues around it. But it is done in such a beautiful, heartfelt way. At the end you feel so good because you know we can fix it, we can make it right.”
– Cindy Lee, Director

The film is directed by Lee, produced by Six Feet Films and supported by Mdoda, executive producer for Rose and Oaks Media.

“This story was important to tell… It’s very rare that you can find a short film that can move you. This movie is 29 minutes max, and when you’re done you feel like you’ve watched three hours of ‘Titanic’.”
– Anele Mdoda, Executive producer
