CAPE TOWN - State prosecutors presented arguments on Thursday against various applications for the charges against alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack and his co-accused to be withdrawn.

Modack and his 14 co-accused this week submitted discharge applications to have the State's case against them withdrawn.

The accused faces 122 charges for various crimes related to allegedly operating a criminal enterprise.

On Thursday, the State set out to show they had a solid case to find Modack and his co-accused guilty of the charges they face.

This week, defence attorneys attempted to discredit the State's witnesses in their submissions to have the case discharged.

State prosecutor, Greg Wolmarans, echoed Judge Robert Henney's sentiments, saying the witnesses' testimonies cannot be discredited even though certain elements are in doubt.

Wolmarans also told the court when looking at the totality of the evidence, it’s clear Modack and his co-accused are guilty of the charges they face.

Henney is set to make a ruling on the discharge applications next week.
