R100k reward offered for info that leads to arrests in murder case of Khayelitsha neighbourhood watch member

CAPE TOWN - Police are appealing for information from the public as detectives investigate the murder of a neighbourhood watch member in Khayelitsha. 

Farrington Mkutshulwa was shot and killed in Makhaza on Friday. 

The 49-year-old was patrolling in the Ezimfeneni informal settlement near Enkanini at the time.

The police's Joseph Swartbooi said that the investigation was currently focused on a search for persons of interest and they were hoping that a massive reward would encourage the community to assist.

"Four unidentified men were mentioned as persons of interest and detectives would like to interview them in connection with the incident. A reward of up to R100,000 is therefore offered for any information that will assist to apprehend those responsible for the murder of Farrington Mkutshulwa."

Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC Anroux Marais also appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

She said the murder was particularly tragic as the victim was trying to make Makhaza a safer place when he was killed.
