CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) said that education consultant Dr Seelan Naidoo was contradicting his own analysis on the teacher jobs cuts.
In an opinion piece, Naidoo makes the claim that public schools in the wealthy suburbs of Cape Town have been exempted from teacher job cuts.

But the department said his article mentions that Quintile 5 schools, schools in more affluent areas, had the highest number of teacher job cuts.
It has also dismissed claims that it deliberately withheld information from the provincial parliament regarding schools that would be affected.
Department's spokesperson, Kerry Mauchline, said the information was provided to Parliament twice.
She added that only special needs schools were exempted from the teacher cuts.
"The claims made by the consultant are categorically false, and we encourage the public to ignore such propaganda. The formula determining how the entitled number of teaching posts gets divided between schools, is provided by the national government and takes into account class sizes, the workload of teachers, the size of the size, language, curriculum and other factors."
