DURBAN - The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal has called on police to intervene in alleged violence involving members of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command and South African Students Congress (SASCO).

A video making the rounds on social media shows an altercation between two student movements in Durban.

The incident took place as student organisations linked to different political parties participated in the registration process.

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has accused the EFF Student Command of perpetuating violence at institutions of higher learning.

On Wednesday morning, a video taken outside the DUT Steve Biko Campus made rounds on social media showing EFFSC members forcefully removing an ANC gazebo and throwing it on the road.

"As the alliance, we note with disgust the brutal violence which is alleged to be perpetuated by EFF Student Command against SASCO in all institutions of higher learning and more in particular in the Durban University of Technology eThekwini (Durban campus). This kind of violence has no place in our democratic order, we therefore call upon the police to act quickly and swiftly against perpetrators of violence and crime," said ANC KZN Provincial Secretary Bheki Mtolo.

EWN has reached out to the EFF Student Command for comment and are still waiting for a response.
