CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa will use its G20 presidency to encourage greater cooperation and collaboration between leading economies of the world.

Delivering a special address to the forum in Davos, Switzerland on Tuesday afternoon, Ramaphosa used the opportunity to promote South Africa's hosting of the economic bloc, saying the country was well-positioned to advance global cooperation and to build partnerships for growth and development.

South Africa's G20 presidency, the first by an African nation, is focused on three themes - solidarity, equality and sustainable development.

Ramaphosa said that as an infrastructure revolution is propelling Africa's growth, the continent wants to develop the skills for Africa's youth and the economic empowerment of its women.

"The African Continental Free Trade Area has the potential to change the economic and social fortunes of the continent. We will seek G20 support for the AfCFTA Adjustment Fund that will enhance inclusive growth, sustainability and regional integration."
