Defence in Nafiz Modack trial to present evidence against State's case

CAPE TOWN - The high-profile case against alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack is set to return to court on Tuesday.
After more than a month of recess, the Modack trial will be back the Western Cape High Court.
Modack and fourteen others face 122 charges for various crimes related to allegedly running a criminal enterprise.
Defence attorneys will this week start presenting evidence to try and convince the court the accused are not guilty of the crimes they have been charged with.
Moreover, defence attorneys for some of the accused are expected to present the court with their heads of argument this week.
Modack's long list of charges includes extortion, money laundering, fraud, corruption, attempted murder and murder.
Following the conclusion of the State's case, the defence will set out to show there is no prospect of a conviction on the charges against Modack and his some of his co-accused.
