The Democratic Alliance has called on Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni to step down immediately amid a Hawks investigation into her conduct as municipal manager of the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality.

Ntshavheni is implicated in a R2,5 million in tender corruption, which she's alleged to have improperly  handed a contract to a company.

She was once the youngest Municipal Manager in South Africa when she worked in that position for the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipal Council from April 2008 until November 2010.

The Freedom Front Plus has echoed the DA's sentiments, calling for the minister to be suspended at once pending the final outcome of the case.

The FF+ has further called on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to not delay prosecution and ensure she faces her day in court over the allegations.

Speaking to Stephen Grootes on The Money Show, Khaya Koko, an investigative journalist with News24 says the court's also ruled that there was something untoward about the awarding of the contract.

"A case was opened in July 2021. We are now in January 2025, with the Hawks conforming those investigations are now complete."

"The fact that they've sent the docket to the NPA, according to the Hawks, they probably believe that the case is strong enough to warrant a successful prosecution."

"Khumbudzo Ntshavheni in 2019, publicly admitted to have played a major role in the election of Cyril Ramaphosa in 2017...definitely someone in the inner circle, so it will be interesting how the preside t deals with this one."
