DFFE applauds City of Cape Town for making major abalone bust

CAPE TOWN - The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has commended the City of Cape Town for making a major abalone poaching bust in the Western Cape.
Metro police officers attached to the special operations unit confiscated 250kg of abalone in Hout Bay during an integrated operation with law enforcement and the city’s internal investigations unit on Thursday last week.

DFFE Minister Dion George said he would be focusing on more anti-poaching initiatives this year.
"I want to commend Alderman JP Smith, MMC for Safety and Security in the City of Cape Town and his team, for intercepting abalone poachers in Hout Bay. Their actions resulted in the arrest of a suspect and the retrieval of 250kg of poached abalone."
