CAPE TOWN - Members of the police's Anti-Gang Unit were forced to fire rubber bullets at attacking pitbulls in Delft.
The three dogs were incited by their 21-year-old owner to attack the officers, who were there to conduct a search over the weekend.
The dog owner was arrested and the officers confiscated a pistol with ammunition, mandrax and tik.
"I want to commend the members of the Anti-Gang Unit for doing their duty in very tough circumstances. Not even a vicious pitbull attack could deter them. It is this kind of commitment to duty which will help us win the war against crime in the Western Cape" said Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC, Anroux Marais.
In another search nearby, the officers confiscated a hundred rounds of ammunition, hidden in a cupboard and a man was arrested.
