JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) says it's working hard to ensure it's no longer forced to form coalitions to stay in government.
The party's national executive committee (NEC) met at the Birchwood Hotel at the weekend to consider interventions in Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal structures.
The two provinces performed poorly in the recent general elections, losing their outright majorities, leading them to form coalition governments.

ANC's Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, said the intervention is part of rebuilding the organisation to return to its former glory.
"We must be focused on the task at hand to ensure the ANC regains the momentum and regains the support we have lost, and work tirelessly to get out of arrangements of GNU [Government of National Unity], coalitions and everything else in the local municipalities through the popular vote."
