Disgruntled Phumlamqashe residents give Lesufi 7 days to respond to their demands

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi has 7 days to respond to demands from disgruntled Phumlamqashe residents, or they’ll return to the streets in protest.
 
On Friday, residents demonstrated against ongoing water issues in their area.

Several years ago, Joburg Water flagged the informal settlement as a hotspot for illegal connections, claiming this disrupted supply to paying customers.
  
"Mobilise, protest, and take matters into their own hands". Those are the words of frustrated residents who said Joburg Water has abandoned them.
 
After submitting a memorandum of demands, the community gave the premier a 7-day deadline to respond.
 
But some residents are sceptical that action will be taken.
 
Community leader Alfred Mxunya said: "The government of this country will never respond, because they undermine the citizens of this country."
 
The premier’s office has promised to address the community’s concerns promptly.
