CAPE TOWN - A prominent Cape Town musician accused of sexually assaulting a teenager for six years is back in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 51-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, is alleged to have started raping his former student in 2013 when he was 14 years old until he was 20 years old.

The accused was subsequently arrested in 2020 and is currently out on bail.

The victim’s family has called for justice for their loved one after he suffered years of prolonged trauma at the hands of the jazz pianist.

The trial began in April last year, where the victim gave testimony on camera.

However, following several postponements last year, the case is expected to resume with the victim’s cross-examination in camera.

The victim's family spokesperson, June Major, says the trial has taken a toll, not only on them but especially on their loved ones.

"We've heard about righteous anger, righteous indignation, and rape causes to have that righteous indignation. But now as a family and as activists, we are fighting for righteous justice to prevail."
