DURBAN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has questioned the disbandment of the political task team looking into the killing of politicians in the province.

The task team was established back in 2019 to address the high rate of political killings.

However, last week the police ministry announced the task team’s disbandment.

The DA in the province says given the political environment, this was not a good move.

The political killings task team was established in 2019 as one of the recommendations of the Moerane Commission investigating political killings in KZN.

Following its disbandment by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, the DA  said with the upcoming 2026 municipal polls, the minister must have an alternative plan.

DA KZN leader Francois Rodgers was speaking on the sideline of the court case of slain DA councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu on Wednesday.
