JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA has finally announced plans to hold an elective conference where its members will democratically elect the organisation’s top leaders.
The party was established four years ago, but its still led by an interim leadership collective.
Party leader Herman Mashaba held a media briefing in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
ActionSA made its political debut in 2020 and rapidly established a presence in various municipalities and now secured the mayoral position in Tshwane.
But the party has not yet held an elective conference, meaning all its leaders and deployees were appointed by Mashaba, rather than elected democratically by its members.
As the party preps for next year's municipal elections, Mashaba emphasised the importance of holding the conference.
"Ahead of the next local government in elections in 2026, we shall also create new party branches to get ActionSA ready for its first elective conference for when the time is right."
Mashaba said the elective conference would only take place once ActionSA was confident in the foundation it had established.
