JOHANNESBURG - The principal of Forte Secondary School in Dobsonville, Soweto, says discipline is the key to obtaining a 100% matric pass rate.

Mukosi Mudavhi has been leading the school since 2011 and said this was the first time he managed overall success.

The class of 2024 collected their results at the school on Tuesday.

Mudavhi said he was proud that he finally managed to reach the goal of a 100% pass rate.

The school had a total of 291 matriculants and of that, 215 obtained bachelor’s degrees passes.

He said this was achieved through a collaborative effort.

"The learners that when we instil discipline, they do listen to and believe that whatever we are we lead them into a good path. We also have got teachers that are committed teachers that know their subjects so we need that teachers must know for themselves and they must also know how to teach another to be able to pass the examination."

Mudavhi said he wants to maintain this pass rate for the year 2025 and years to come.

Mudavhi also said crime and substance abuse are the top two issues faced by learners in the area. 

He said despite these challenges, the school managed to achieve a 100% matric pass rate. 

He said external support from police and other agencies assisted in restoring order at the school. 

"We do experience a lot of challenges in terms of But I want to thank the SAPS of Dobsonville If there are any challenges we call them. And they do come to also experience the issue of drugs, substance abuse we do experience that with our leaners but we also team with different organisations that come and support us."
