JOHANNESBURG - The chairperson of the tribunal investigating allegations of sexual harassment against a top judge has expressed confusion over some submissions made by the victim.

Andiswa Mengo is continuing with her evidence in chief before the tribunal probing Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge.

She detailed the messages received from the judge in which he would make inappropriate requests.

The engagements on social media platform, WhatsApp, were read out before the tribunal.

"Earn it" is what Mengo told Mbenenge when he requested photos from the then 37-year-old secretary in the division.

But evidence leader, advocate Salome Scheepers asked why this was her response to unwelcomed advances by the senior judge.

Mengo said she would not simply send photos of herself to someone she was not in a relationship with.

However, tribunal chairperson, retired Judge President Bernard Ngoepe seemed perplexed by this response.

"Speaking for myself, quite frankly, I don't understand an answer to this question."

Mengo clarified that her intention was for the judge to clearly propose and state what exactly his intentions were.
