JOHANNESBURG - Political parties have congratulated the class of 2024 for their historical pass rate - of 87.3%.
However, Build One South Africa (BOSA) has expressed reservations about whether it’s a true reflection of the state of the country’s education system.
The party says the pass rate is misleading - since more than half a million children who started school in 2013 - did not achieve a matric certificate.

While they are being hailed for beating the odds - BOSA says the true pass rate for this cohort is only around 51%.
Of the 1.2 million grade 1s in 2013 - only 615, 000 reached matric.
