Gauteng govt plans to make funds available for implementation of BELA Act - Lesufi

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng government says it plans to make funds available for the implementation of the BELA Act.
The Basic Education Laws Amendment Act, which was recently signed into official government policy, makes a number of changes to the country’s education system.

Among the changes are the school admission and language policies which will now be decided by the provincial government.
Speaking at the awards ceremony for top achieving matric students on Tuesday, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said that the provincial government had already started thinking about how it would fund BELA.
"Whether they are still putting up the regulations or whatever, we are budgeting for the implementation of BELA in Gauteng from 2025. We are putting the budget to ensure that all our children are equal and we will put our resources to deal with this."
