Education MEC Matome Chiloane said that Gauteng remains the only province in the country whose schools offer all 12 official languages.
"It further demonstrates that this is a system that is benefitting from careful planning, direct attention and targeted interventions, despite it being under pressure. This performance must be celebrated in the unique and complex nature of the Gauteng education system. Gauteng’s sustained performance confirms the fact that the Gauteng education system is a stable and resilient system. In addition, Gauteng is so diverse and complex, that it is the only province in the country where learners are offered all the 12 official languages of our country. Furthermore, the system offers at least 10 non-official languages, making our basic education system a global player for development."
