JOHANNESBURG - The woman who accused Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge of sexual harassment said she tried to deter him by insinuating that she would ask him for money.
In WhatsApp messages read out before the judicial tribunal, Andiswa Mengo initiated conversations about money.
However, the judge president responded that life was not about money.
The tribunal is sitting to investigate the claims of sexual harassment levelled against the senior judge.
While Mbenenge does not dispute that the interactions took place, he disagrees that they were not consensual.
Assisted by an interpreter, Mengo explained that she only spoke about money to discourage him from continuing with his sexual advances.
"I wonder when I want money, would you give? When you are a girl who is not interested in the person that you are talking to, who is making demands in this manner, to chase him away, you make sure that you include the word money."
