Cape Town retains title as MOST congested city in South Africa
The Mother City has the worst traffic in South Africa and some of the worst in the world.

As people get back to work and schools prepare to open, it probably won’t surprise residents that Cape Town ranks as South Africa’s most congested city.
According to the latest INRIX Global Traffic Scorecard, in 2024, residents of the Mother City spent 94 hours in peak traffic.
In global terms, Cape Town ranks ninth, the second consecutive time it has appeared in the top 10.

In 2023, Capetonians lost 83 hours in traffic.
Johannesburg is South Africa's second-most congested city, with residents spending 55 hours in traffic. Pretoria completes the top three with 45 hours lost.
