JOHANNESBURG - The 28 Ethiopian nationals, who are allegedly victims of human trafficking, will continue to appear in separate courts this week. 

The individuals, aged between 18 and 21, form part of a group that was discovered by the police after receiving a tip-off on suspicious activity at a house in Sandringham.

Law enforcement found 28 naked individuals who were reportedly held captive.

All 28 accused appeared in three separate courtrooms before different magistrates on Monday. 

The court proceedings were postponed allowing for medical assessments to be conducted on some of the underage individuals involved in the case.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane: “Twenty-eight people believed to be of Ethiopian origin, appeared before the Hillbrow Magistrates Court, on a charge of contravening the Immigration Act. They were all remanded in custody to various dates, ranging from 14, 17, and 27 January to the 14th of February due to the court’s schedule.”
