JOHANNESBURG - A psychologist has urged parents to pay close attention to the mental health of their children.

Sibusiso Mhlongo said that matric pupils may be experiencing anxiety as they wait to see how they performed.

Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube will announce the 2024 matric exam results later on Monday and matriculants will know their individual results on Tuesday.

Almost 833,000 pupils sat for the exams last year.

Mhlongo, who is a counselling psychologist, said that most people feel anxious when they do not have control over a situation.

"You can't control the outcome of your exams, but you have had control over what you had to write in your exam. So, I want you to think about your exam in a certain way. Exams were not about you as a person. They were about you as a learner. They don't define you."
