JOHANNESBURG - Two people have died in a crash in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (EMS) responded to a crash involving a car that overturned on the N12 last night.

It's understood the driver of a bakkie lost control of the vehicle and hit a substation.

EMS spokesperson Eric Maloka said both the driver and passenger died on impact.

"[A] rescue team from Primrose swiftly responded to the scene. The rescue team had to use specialised hydraulic rescue equipment, known as the jaws of life, to access and recover the two bodies from the wreckage. The scene was handed over to EMPD Freeway Patrol for further investigation."
