JOHANNESBURG - A power outage in Hammanskraal is causing an interruption to water supply in the area. 

The Temba Water Treatment Plant which uses electricity to treat and distribute water is currently not operational due to the outage.

The City of Tshwane said this was affecting several areas including, Temba, Majamemg/Lephengville, Jubilee hospital, Jubilee Mall, Hammanskraal West, Unit D, Suurman and Renstown. 

City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said it is not yet clear when power will be restored, but will keep its residents updated on developments.

"The Temba Water Treatment Plant in Hammanskraal is currently out of operation due to a power outage. The area is supplied by Eskom, and the plant uses Eskom electricity to treat and distribute water. Residents will be kept updated as and when there are developments we appeal to residents to always use water sparingly."
