JOHANNESBURG - Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has confirmed that an investigation is underway into reports that matric exam results were leaked.
This follows allegations that matriculants were able to buy their results from a website for R100.
Gwarube said that the department had roped in the Hawks to help with the investigation.

The minister will announce official results later on Monday and matriculants will know their individual results on Tuesday.
Almost 833,000 matriculants sat for the exams last year.
Gwarube said that the potential leak of the results had not affected the integrity of the results.
"The breach seems to have happened only at the tail end that pertains to the verified results that have already been finalised. The reason why I make that distinction clear is so that it can be clear to everybody that we are talking about the results themselves that very well may have been leaked."
