CAPE TOWN - The Umalusi council for quality assurance is on Monday expected to brief the country on the 2024 matric results, which are set to be released on Tuesday.

More than 870,000 people sat for the National Senior Certificate examinations last year.

Officials in the Basic Education Department have appealed to matriculants who have not achieved the desired results to use the department's counselling services.

The Information Regulator recently lost a court battle to block the publishing of the results in newspapers, citing personal information laws.

Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier urged those who did not pass to pursue other options to ensure they complete their matric qualification.

"While the percentage pass rate is an important indicator when assessing the matric results, we must also consider other indicators such as the number of candidates achieving a bachelor's pass, the number of candidates writing and passing, and reducing the number of underperforming schools."
