JOHANNESBURG – Four-hundred-and-seven learners cheated in the 2024 national senior certificate examinations. 

The announcement was made by Umalusi - the council for quality assurance in general and further education and training - during a media briefing in Pretoria on Monday morning.

Over 800,000 learners sat down for the 2024 national senior certificate examinations. 

Umalusi CEO Dr Mafu Rakometsi says the number of incidents of cheating declined from the 2023 examinations. 

ALSO READ: 

"The number decreased from 945 in 2023 to 407 in 2024." 

He says KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Mpumalanga topped the list of cheating candidates. 

“Umalusi remains seriously concerned that KZN and Mpumalanga are once again at the top of the list with 195 and 74 implicated candidates respectively."
