Rise Mzansi: Rampant crime needs to be priority in national dialogue

JOHANNESBURG - Rise Mzansi said that they want the issue of rampant crime to be placed as a priority point of discussion at the national dialogue when it takes place early this year.

This call comes after Police Minister Senzo Mchunu disclosed that more than 9,000 mass murders occurred in the country between 2019 and 2024.

In his reply to parliamentary questions posed by the party, Mchunu revealed that over the same period, more than 1,000 individuals had been arrested, with 22 illegal firearms linked to cases of multiple murders and 143 cases having resulted in convictions.

The party also condemned the mass shooting incident that occurred in Mpumalanga on Saturday where at least eight people were killed.

Rise Mzansi's Makashule Gana said that rampant crime threatens national safety

"We are not safe, as mass shootings or multiple murders continue to stalk our communities with illegal guns playing a role in this tragic and violent phenomenon."

Gana extended condolences to the families of the Mpumalanga mass shooting victims.
