CAPE TOWN - Eskom in Cape Town has once again withdrawn its services from Nkanini in Khayelitsha.
This comes after the power utility's contractors deployed in the area were robbed of their belongings and hijacked at gunpoint on Friday.
Eskom released a statement apologising to the greater Nkanini community as they will be experiencing delays in the maintenance of electrical faults in the area.
The robbery follows many other previous incidents where the power utility's staff members were either robbed, assaulted, or hijacked in the area.
The utility said that it will engage with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and local community leaders to find solutions to the ongoing attack on its staff while working at Nkanini.
The state entity said that moving forward it will only deliver services in areas where the safety of its employees is guaranteed.
It encouraged residents to get involved in the fight against crime to avoid the disruption of services.
