JOHANNESBURG - The grandson of former President Nelson Mandela will appear alongside four others on Friday morning in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court.

The five were arrested on Wednesday at the Mandela property in Houghton, Johannesburg.

This came after members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD)’s tactical response unit and a car-tracking company traced a vehicle that was hijacked in the early hours of Wednesday morning to the home.

Four men, Mandela’s grandson, and a woman will appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates Court.

They were arrested on charges related to the hijacking of an Uber driver in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning.

More details of the involvement of Mandela’s grandson are expected to emerge in court.

Eyewitness News understands that the woman arrested is Mandela’s grandson’s partner, who allowed the three other men implicated in the crime to stay at a cottage on the property.

Police stormed the property and raided the cottage, where they found numerous electronic items believed to be stolen, as well as drug paraphernalia.

The hijacked vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla, was parked under an awning at the front of the property.
