CAPE TOWN - Community members at one of Cape Town’s most dangerous townships have voiced frustrations over unemployment.

According to the latest census, Delft is home to over 100,000 people, with 40% unemployed.

African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the township on Thursday to celebrate the party’s 113 years of existence.

As Ramaphosa walked along the streets of Delft on Thursday, hundreds of community members excitedly surrounded him.

A common concern they shared with him is gun violence and unemployment in the township, which they feel the government has failed to address.

A resident said most people have lost hope that things will get better in the future.

“We’ve got youngsters in the community who’ve got degrees, but they don’t get jobs. So, we really want the president to look at the youngsters as well.”

Ramaphosa made several promises to the residents, but some said only time will tell whether will get better.
