Bengu played key role in reversing the legacy of apartheid education - Mashatile

JOHANNESBURG - Deputy President Paul Mashatile said that South Africa's first democratic education minister, Professor Sibusio Bengu would be rememberd for his role in dismantling the dreadful legacies of apartheid.
Mashatile delivered the eulogy at the former minister's funeral service on Friday.
Bengu passed away at his home last week at the age of 90.
A special category 2 funeral is underway at the University of Zululand in KwaZulu-Natal in his honour.
Various high-ranking dignitaries took to the podium to express their last condolences to the family and friends of the late former minister.
Mashatile said that Bengu was a renowned revolutionary and intellectual of his time and the country had lost a distinguished educator, diplomat and servant of the people.
"Professor Bengu has played a key role in shaping education and other social policies, contributing to the transformation of the sector and most importantly reversing the legacy of apartheid education."
