JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks say they are searching for more potential human trafficking victims following a major bust in Johannesburg North on Friday morning.
The directorate uncovered a house in Rembrandt Park where dozens of individuals believed to be Ethiopian nationals were kept against their will.
They managed to rescue 26 men, 11 of whom are receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained throughout the ordeal, with the remaining 15 assisting with investigations.
The directorate added that an unconfirmed number of the victims ran away during the raid.
Hawks spokesperson, Philani Nkwalase: "Our preliminary investigation showed that there could have been more people that managed to escape without trace and should there be people that are hiding in and around the place naked, trying to source clothing, they should contact the police."
Preliminary investigations reveal the victims escaped by breaking a window and burglar bars. The case is ongoing.
