CAPE TOWN - Leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party Jacob Zuma’s attempts to return to the African National Congress (ANC) have not yielded the desired outcome, as the party insisted his expulsion was fully in line with its constitution.
ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa said all necessary procedures were followed during Zuma’s disciplinary hearing, ultimately resulting in his expulsion from the party.
In Cape Town on Wednesday, Ramaphosa responded to a letter from Zuma’s legal team demanding he be reinstated as an ANC member.

After serving the ANC for 62 years, Zuma was expelled from the party in 2024, following his decision to form his political organisation.
In his letter demanding reinstatement to his previous political home, Zuma outlined 12 reasons why he believes he should be readmitted to the party.
Among his reasons, Zuma claimed the ANC acted unfairly by refusing to hold his disciplinary hearing in person or publicly, adding that the party treated him unjustly.
However, his successor, Ramaphosa, maintained that Zuma’s disciplinary hearing was conducted fairly and in line with the country’s laws and the ANC’s constitution.
“I have not seen the letter, but all I can say is that we have followed due process, and the secretary general has been absolutely proper and correct in the way that he led the interpretation and the execution of our constitution.”
With the ANC showing no intention of meeting Zuma’s demands, the MK Party leader is expected to take his efforts to be reinstated to the courts.
