CAPE TOWN – African National Congress (ANC) chairperson Gwede Mantashe says the Government of National Unity (GNU) is full of communists.
He said the South African Communist Party (SACP)’s opposition to the GNU is mainly because the party and its leaders wanted something in return.
Mantashe was speaking after the ANC's birthday celebrations on Wednesday, in Grabouw, in the Overberg region.
He gave a keynote address at the celebration and also addressed issues facing the GNU.
Mantashe said the ANC’s alliance partner, the SACP, has no reason to oppose the GNU, which he said is full of communists, including himself.
“The organisation are all communists who are in the GNU. You’ll find many of them. You’ll find not less than 10 by the way, I can tell you now.”
Mantashe said SACP leader Solly Mapaila doesn’t support the GNU because he wanted something.
“He’s complaining because he wanted XYZ.”
Mantashe said the issue is when leaders target certain personalities in the GNU.
