CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has hit back at ActionSA for claiming it’s been hypocritical about blue light brigades used by ministers to get around on official duties.
The party said its ministers have made no new vehicle acquisitions and have inherited their current fleets from their predecessors.

The DA insists, however, that although these vehicles are fitted with blue light sirens, they are not used for official travel.
On Tuesday, ActionSA slammed DA leader John Steenhuisen for the three SUVs that form part of his fleet in the Agriculture Ministry.
But the DA said these were old cars with thousands of kilometres on the clock.
DA spokesperson Willie Aucamp said DA ministers are sticking to party principles on official convoys.
“DA ministers have made it clear that the blue lights in their official vehicles will not be used under any circumstances. DA ministers have also instructed their security personnel to always abide by traffic laws.”
Aucamp said Steenhuisen gets around in a six-year-old Audi with more than 135,000 kilometres on the clock while in Cape Town.
In Pretoria, a seven-year-old Toyota which has travelled more than 200,000 kilometres is his means of transport.
“In the rush to let their fantasy get in the way of facts, ActionSA has let themselves be exposed as hypocrites.”
The DA has turned the tables on ActionSA, pointing out that its Tshwane Mayor and Johannesburg Speaker have two luxury BMW vehicles with security features as part of their official convoys.
