CAPE TOWN - African National Congress (ANC) leaders are scattered across the Western Cape on Thursday evening for candlelight gatherings and night walks in preparation for the party’s birthday rally.

The annual events take place during the week of the ANC's anniversary and will be held in various townships across Cape Town.

On Wednesday, the ANC celebrated its 113th anniversary and will mark the occasion with a rally at Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha on Saturday.

ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, is set to lead a candlelight ceremony for peace and security in Delft.

The choice of Delft is significant, as it was named South Africa's murder capital by the police two years ago.

It is also the fastest-growing township in Cape Town, with 40% of its residents unemployed.

Ramaphosa will lead the ANC's prayer for peace and security in the community, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by its residents.

Other ANC leaders are also visiting townships across the city that are grappling with similar issues.
