JOHANNESBURG - South African Tourism says it's on track to resolve a range of governance issues following the appointment of a new chief operations officer (COO) on Thursday.
Darryl Erasmus is now the organisation’s new COO.
Erasmus, previously the organisation’s chief assurance officer in the Tourism Grading Council business unit, brings a wealth of experience in hospitality and tourism.
The SA Tourism board approved Erasmus' appointment as COO in December.
It followed a vacuum in the position after the previous COO and acting CEO, Nomasonto Ndlovu, was removed from the state-owned organisation over damaging claims.
Ndlovu was accused of accepting a bribe from Qatar Airways in December 2022, less than a year after her appointment to the job.
Erasmus is now expected to oversee the operation’s internal business units, drive in-country localisation and execute global strategies.
Part of this includes helping to improve South Africa as a competitive destination.
