As the City of Johannesburg continues to experience heavy rainfall, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department calls on motorists to exercise caution on the roads.

Reduce your speed, maintain a safe following distance, and turn on your headlights for improved visibility.

JMPD has identified the following roads that are prone to flooding:

  • Roads near the Jukskei and Hennops rivers
  • N1 at Maraisburg
  • M1 North double-decker in the Johannesburg CBD
  • N3 at Linksfield Roads
  • Leeuwkop Road in Sunninghill
  • Witkoppen Road in Paulshof
  • Pretoria Main Road
  • Olifantsfontein Road
  • Allandale Road in Midrand
  • Roosevelt Road in Alexandra
  • Belgrave Bridge in Bryanston
  • Klipspruit Valley Road in Orlando West
  • Moroka Nancefield Road in Mofolo South
  • Mzilikazi Street in Mofolo Central

“Motorists should avoid extremely flooded roads and low-lying bridges, as vehicles may be at risk of being swept away or trapped,” says JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
