CAPE TOWN - The Jacob Zuma Foundation said that issuing the African National Congress (ANC) with a letter of demand on its birthday to reinstate its patron and former ANC president had been deliberate.
Zuma wants his membership restored after being expelled for divisive conduct last year.
Despite starting his own party, Zuma believes there's nothing untoward about wanting to hold dual political party membership, as do members of the ANC's alliance partner, the South African Communist Party (SACP).

In a legal letter delivered to the ANC's secretary-general on Wednesday, uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader, Jacob Zuma, listed at least 12 perceived transgressions by the ANC in his disciplinary process.
His foundation's spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi, said that the timing of delivering this legal challenge to the ANC was no coincidence.
"President Zuma is raising awareness to South Africa to say that South Africa must wake up and see this ANC for what it is, which is not what the founders of the ANC had in mind."
But ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said that Zuma was just up to mischief.
"He's a liar. He's unreliable. He's not a friend to anybody, but he's a friend to himself."
Zuma has given the ANC until the end of January to reinstate him or face further legal consequences.
