EWN understands that three men who were arrested at the Houghton family property of former statesman, Nelson Mandela, had been residing there for four days.

Members of JMPD's tactical unit pounced on the suspects in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The three men were located in a small cottage near the run-down tennis courts on the property.

Goods, believed to be stolen, including a TV, DVD player, sound bar, and an Apple TV box, were also recovered.

A firearm, which looks and feels like a real gun but only fires blank rounds, was found concealed in a mattress outside the cottage.

The hijacked white Toyota Corolla was found parked under an awning at the front of the property.

Madiba's grandson and his alleged female partner were arrested in a separate portion of the home.

The arrests come just hours after President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the media from within Mandela's cell on Robben Island as the ruling party commemorates 130 years since its inception.
