Mango Groove celebrates 40 years since formation

CAPE TOWN - One of South Africa's all-time greats is set to celebrate four decades of their iconic tunes at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden on Sunday.

Mango Groove is an 11-piece Afropop group formed in 1984 and is renowned for its unique blend of marabi, kwela, and pop rhythms.

To honour its 40th anniversary, Mango Groove is hosting a one-night-only exclusive event themed "Memories and Moments".

Vocalist Claire Johnston said the event captures the hits, history and heart of their journey.

"We have some surprises. We have some beautiful visuals and some other surprises. I'm not going to give too much away. But it will be emotional. We've been looking back and reflecting on all the things that happened. The good, the bad, the ugly. So it's going to be emotional for us as well. I'm not totally sure what I'm going to say yet but I am going to get a bit swept away. And Kirstenbosch is always good to us."
