Search continues for missing man swept away at Jukskei River

According to reports, the 26-year-old man who is believed to be from Chartwell, went missing on New Year’s Day after allegedly trying to use the pipeline to cross over the Jukskei River during a flash flood.

JOHANNESBURG - A search operation is underway for a man who reportedly went missing while crossing over a pipeline in Fourways.

According to reports, the 26-year-old man who is believed to be from Chartwell, went missing on New Year’s Day after allegedly trying to use the pipeline to cross over the Jukskei River during a flash flood. 

The National Sea and Rescue Institute (NSRI) has been requested by the police service and Search and Rescue South Africa to assist in the search for the missing man.

Spokesperson for the institute, Craig Lambinon; "An NSRI Gauteng swift order rescue team joined in the search on Sunday morning with NSRI Gauteng swift rescuers divided into teams joining police, SARZA and fire and rescue services in the extensive ongoing search efforts along the Jukskei river and along the Klein Jukskei river searching in the directions of Fourways, Chartwell, Broadacres and Steyn City.”

Despite the extensive search, he said, there were no signs of the missing man.

“A police helicopter has been deployed to assist in this ongoing search operation. Twenty kilometres of the river were covered on Sunday and there remain no signs of the missing man.”
