JOHANNESBURG - Celebrated South African musician, Winnie Khumalo, has died at the age of 51.
According to her family, Khumalo died in hospital on Tuesday following a short illness.
The charismatic songstress was an award-winning vocalist who was signed with record label, Kalawa Jazzmee.
Born in 1973 in Soweto, Khumalo began her music career at the tender age of 15, releasing her first project and quickly rising to fame.
Over the years, she became a household name with her distinctive voice and popular dance moves that resonated across generations.
Some of the Afropop musician’s popular titles include 'Live my life' and 'Kulezontaba'.
A former student of Vuyo Lower Primary and Mncube Secondary School, Khumalo's legacy is cemented in her contribution to South Africa's music industry.
Winnie's daughter, Rethabilile, said the family was reeling from her death.
Winnie's last musical offering was in 2023, with a rich legacy that will remembered for generations.
