JOHANNESBURG - Mop-up operations continue in parts of the North West following heavy rain and flooding.

The floods have left a trail of destruction, including damage at three hospitals.

More than 30 patients had to be moved from the General de la Rey Hospital in Lichtenburg to nearby hospitals following flooding.

The stormwater system failed to channel water away from the facility.

Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi will visit the hospital on Tuesday to assess the situation.

The minister said it is worrying that the impact of the flood has forced the transfer of some patients.

Spokesperson Foster Mohale said, "This hospital is one of the most affected health facilities. The minister will be accompanied by the provincial MEC for Health, Sello Lehari, and a technical team from the national head office, including engineers, to assess the damage and develop an intervention plan.”
